To many, finance minister Asim Dasgupta's budget speech on Monday was jarring to the ears and bitter to the taste. For, the proposal to hike VAT on mobiles (Rs 3,000-plus category) from 4% to 12.5% and sales tax on Indian-made foreign liquor from 30% to 37% will pinch the pockets of both mobile users and tipplers.
